Martensitic Stainless Steel

- Type 410 is a general-purpose grade containing 0.15% maximum carbon.
- Type 420 increases the carbon content to 0.15% minimum for improved strength.
- Type 431 has added nickel content for improved corrosion resistance Types 440A, 440B and 440C increases the carbon content.
- Type 440C contains 0.95-1.20% carbon for highest hardness. Types 440B and 440A decreases the carbon content relative to.
- Type 440C for improved toughness.
- Type 630 stainless steel, also known as 17-4 PH, is a martensitic precipitation-hardened stainless steel. It’s used in applications that require high strength and some corrosion resistance.
Ferritic Stainless Steel

- Alloy 410S (UNS S41008) is a low carbon, non–hardening modification of Alloy 410 (UNS S41000) the general purpose 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel.
- Type 409 contains lower chromium content and is primarily used for automotive exhaust systems.
- Type 430 is the most common ferritic grade primarily general purpose applications.
- Type 439 contains lower carbon and added titanium to resist carbide precipitation.
- Type 444 contains molybdenum for improved corrosion resistance.
